Molecular distillation
Molecular distillation, also known as short-path distillation, is a continuous distillation process of liquid-liquid separation operation performed under a high vacuum.
It is different from the principle of traditional distillation relying on the difference of boiling point separation, but is related to the molecular weight of the distilled mixture and is away from the boiling point. The greater the difference in molecular weight and the greater the difference in the molecular free path, the purer the distillate.
Under the condition of a high vacuum, the liquid mixture flows along with the heating plate and is heated. According to the difference of the average free path of molecules of different molecular weight substances, the size of the average free path of the molecules and the degree of evaporation between the vaporized surface and the condensation surface is also significantly different.
The average free path of the light component molecules is large, and the average free path of the heavy component molecules is small so that the light group can reach the condensation plate and be condensed, to flow down along the condensation plate. The recombinant molecule cannot reach the condensation plate and flows down the heating plate to separate different substances.
Advantages
Compared with others, it has significant advantages.
1. Short time-the material stays on the heated surface for a short time, reducing the chance of thermal decomposition.
2. Low boiling point-the the evaporation temperature is much lower than the boiling point of the material, so it further reduces the possibility of thermal decomposition of the substance.
3. Physical separation-points can effectively protect the separated material, suitable for the separation of high boiling point, heat sensitivity, and easily oxidized materials
4. Low distillation temperature-lower than the boiling point, which is the essential difference from conventional distillation;
5. High vacuum-low pressure, which can inhibit the oxidation damage of materials.
6. Thin distillate membrane-high heat transfer efficiency, and being uniform
7. The high degree of separation-no boiling bubbling phenomenon, which can effectively desolvate and deodorize. It is suitable for the desolvation of liquid after solvent extraction selectively evaporates the target product, and removes other impurities.
