The Scope Of Application Of QuEChERS

In the beginning, QuEChERS is an extracting method for multi-pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables. Now, it has been applied to more and more fields including veterinary medicine, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, and antibiotics, for the detection of more and more different samples such as plasma, flesh, and soil.
As the scope of application of QuEChERS is extending rapidly, what we need to do is to support the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The AOAC method of 2007.01 and the CEN standard method of EN 15622 are both validated.
We notice that in the exploitation of some methods, as well as limited verification tests, adding standard samples can obtain a good and stable recovery.
However, for the samples which have a strong effect between the matrix and the analyte, or the maintenance problem of the instrument which happens during the routine analysis, they may both raise exceptions. For example, when QuEChERS is applied to the soil analysis, in order to overcome the strong adsorption force between soil and sediment, we need to use stronger extraction environment such as pressurized liquid extraction or Soxhlet extraction, instead of handshaking extraction. When it comes to food, as most of them do not have a strong effect, so we can get good recovery through handshaking extraction.
